Roof Cleaning Bristol

Bristol's mild, damp weather suits moss. On the city's terraces and semis, north-facing slopes and roofs shaded by street trees and neighbouring buildings can turn green within a few years, from Redland and Cotham to Knowle and Fishponds. Roof cleaning in Bristol clears that growth away, tidies the roof up and stops moss holding water against the tiles all winter.

We have been roofing since 1993. Every roof clean starts with a free survey and a fixed price in writing, carries a ten year guarantee, and there is nothing to pay until the work is finished and you are happy.

How Much Does Roof Cleaning Cost in Bristol?

The cost of roof cleaning in Bristol depends mainly on the size of the roof and how much moss has built up. A small terrace roof is a quicker job than a large detached house with hips, valleys and dormers.

The main things that affect the price are:

  • The size of the roof
  • The height and pitch of the roof, and the access needed
  • How much moss and growth has built up
  • Whether the roof is tiled or slated
  • Whether the gutters are being cleared as part of the job
  • The volume of moss and debris to take away
  • Access on steep or narrow terraced streets, where ladders or scaffold have to be planned around the neighbours

Every roof clean is priced after a free survey, and you get a clear, fixed price in writing before any work starts.

Roof Moss Removal in Bristol

Moss on Bristol roofs usually starts on the shaded side and along the lower courses, then spreads over the ridges and into the valleys. We remove it from the tiles and ridges and clear away what comes off, so the roof is left clean and water runs off as it should.

Soft Washing

Once the moss is off, soft washing cleans the roof surface at low pressure, lifting grime and staining from tiles and slate without the force of a high-pressure jet. It suits the natural slate on Bristol's Victorian terraces as well as the clay and concrete tiles on later homes.

Roof and Gutter Cleaning

Much of the moss that comes off a Bristol roof ends up in the gutters. As part of a roof clean we clear it out of the gutters and downpipes too, so the next heavy rain drains away instead of spilling over.

Why Moss Is Worth Removing

Moss acts like a sponge. On a Bristol roof it holds water against the tiles all winter, and when it washes off it blocks the gutters. Clearing it keeps the roof drier and saves the gutters from overflowing.

Roofers, Not Just Cleaners

Because we are roofers rather than a cleaning firm, while we are on your roof we look at the slates, tiles, ridges and flashings too. If we see a slipped slate or a cracked ridge, we will tell you and can put it right, rather than cleaning around it.

Roof Cleaning Questions

Anything not covered here, just ask. We would rather answer a question now than have you guess.

0117 905 9458

Will roof cleaning damage my tiles?

We clean using soft washing, a low-pressure method, rather than blasting the roof with a high-pressure jet. As roofers, we know how to work on a roof without damaging it, and if we find a tile or slate that is already cracked or loose, we will tell you.

How long will my roof stay clean?

It depends on the roof. Shaded and north-facing slopes, and roofs near trees, tend to grow moss back sooner than roofs in the open. We can talk you through what to expect for your roof at the survey.

Do you clear the gutters as well?

Yes. Moss that comes off the roof ends up in the gutters, so we clear the gutters and downpipes as part of every roof clean.

Do you need scaffolding?

It depends on the height and shape of the roof. Where scaffold is needed, we use our own, so there is no waiting on a hire company.

Do I have to pay anything up front?

No. You get a full written estimate before we start, and you only pay once the job is finished and you are satisfied with it.

What guarantee do I get?

Every job carries a ten year guarantee, which we give you in writing when we sign the work off.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Surveys and quotes are free and there is no obligation. You get a clear written price before any work starts.

How much does roof cleaning cost?

It depends on the size of the roof, the access and how much moss has built up. The cost section above sets out the main factors, or call us for a free survey and a fixed written price.
